Learning Experience Platform for EHSAS

Context - During the COVID-19 pandemic, SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education & Health Action) needed a way to continue their EHSAS programme, which empowers adolescents in Dharavi with knowledge around health, gender, and life skills. With in-person sessions halted, they approached us to design a mobile-first Learning Experience Platform that could sustain engagement digitally.

Research - We conducted interviews with young people in Dharavi to understand their aspirations, digital habits, and barriers. Insights revealed a strong need for:

  • Mobile accessibility (low connectivity, small screens).
  • Safe spaces for open conversations on sensitive topics.
  • Engaging, bite-sized content over long, classroom-style material.

Design Approach - We named the app Raahi and built it as a friendly, journey-like experience that positions learning as exploration rather than instruction. The design combined vibrant visuals with simple navigation to resonate with young users. Key features included:

  • Personalized Profiles: Badges, certificates, and progress tracking to build pride and motivation.
  • Learning Journeys: Topic pathways such as “Growing Up,” “Sexual & Reproductive Health,” and “Substance Abuse,” broken into interactive modules and quizzes.
  • Community Spaces: Newsfeed for updates, chat for peer support, and “Ask SNEHA” for confidential questions .
  • Linkages: Access to jobs, resources, and support services within the community .

Outcome - The design transformed the EHSAS programme into an engaging, scalable digital platform, ensuring uninterrupted access during the pandemic. More than just an app, it created a trusted space for adolescents to learn, connect, and grow — turning sensitive health education into a relatable, empowering experience.
